I bought this to keep our new dog separate from the cat, like another reviewer, so wanted to set it about 20cm above the floor. (There are actually gates with a built in cat flap, but that seemed pretty pointless to me). The design is simple but effective.

Screwing to a door frame is much more secure than the 'pressure' gates. If you attach to a wall you will need to get some rawlplugs and maybe longer screws, but that's easy enough.

The release mechanism is simple to use, but totally dog-secure. And I reckon toddler-secure too, but haven't put that to the test.

There is no cross-bar to trip over, which makes the gates far less obtrusive.

Gate opens both ways which is useful. But if installed at the top of stairs, I would recommended adding some sort of block so it only opens one way.
